Cat Dental Health

Dental care not only applies to humans but to animals too. If your cat fails to get the right dental care, chances are your cat too might suffer from various dental problems. Taking care for your cat’s teeth is not very difficult. All you would require doing is a few minutes once in a while. Dental care is must for your cat, for it to remain in good health.

Avoid formation of tartar

Your kitty could get attacked by various dental problems by the same reason that humans do. Plaque is the main reason for inviting various dental conditions. Plaque is formed between teeth and the brushing. It is made up of bacteria, saliva and some food particles. It would start off with soft and then gradually it would harden and become tartar. This brown substance, tartar is very much unsightly.  It is also very much unattractive to view. If the amount of tartar increases, it would push up under the gums too. Tartar buildup would cause various infections and loss of teeth too.

Toothbrush and toothpaste

Prevention is ought to be the best medicine. If formation of this unsightly tartar is avoided then your kitty’s teeth are sure to be in good health. Regular brushing habit would prove to be helpful to avoid tartar formation. You can start brushing your cat’s teeth when your kitty is young. Initially, you can start stroking the outside of your cat’s check using a finger. Do not jump of to using a toothbrush for brushing. Once you cat gets used to this brushing process, you can start using a toothbrush. You can take a dab of toothpaste for brushing your cat using your finger initially and then a toothbrush. The most popular toothpaste flavors include poultry and meat.

While brushing your cat’s teeth be careful. After few days, you can start brushing more than one tooth at a time. Gradually you can proceed to the rear teeth. Brushing the rear teeth is very much important. However, stop brushing teeth before your cat would start fussing. Make a habit of brushing your cat’s teeth. Eventually, you will be able to brush each side of the mouth for about half a minute. You do not have to worry about the inner surfaces of teeth that are much harder to get.

More than brushing

In addition to brushing, your cat would require more of chewing too. Easting a lot of moist food would create more of tartar buildup and plaque in cat’s mouth. So you should avoid giving a low of moist foodstuff to your cat. The dental chews would help cleaning your cat’s teeth. Feed your cat with one or two dental chews per day for health dental health. You can also give some chewing toys to your cat. This could eliminate tartar off your cat’s mouth. A good dental care would lead to healthy teeth and a healthy cat too. If you find out that your cat is suffering from some dental condition, then make sure to visit a vet. Immediately visit a vet or else your cat would get caught into some serious dental health conditions.
